A clogged pipe or sewer line is a common occurrence, especially among old establishments. Consequently, every homeowner should know how to unclog and clean a clogged pipe. Alternatively, you can consult the services of Mr. Rooter Plumbing for all your plumbing needs. The solution to clogged pipes is either hydro-jetting or snaking.
Hydro-jetting
Hydro-jetting involves cleaning clogged Pipes using a high-pressure water hose. Hydro-jetting is also known as water-jetting. A water hose is connected to a clogged pipe or sewer line. Water jetted at high pressures of about 5000 psi.
The other end of the water hose is connected to a machine responsible for creating the pressure needed for the hydro-jet. The high-pressure water is powerful enough to remove any grease, concrete, dirt, or wood clinging onto the pipes causing the block.
Plumbers state that a hydro-jet emitting 8000 psi worth of pressure can remove tree roots in a sewer line. Hydro-jetting is ideal for homes experiencing frequently clogged pipes. It is an effective technique and is quite versatile. It is the recommended technique for blocked sewer lines.
However, powerful waterjets can damage water pipes that cannot sustain the pressure impacted. Therefore, it is prudent to contact Mr. Rooter Plumbing as they will assess if the water pipes are robust enough to withstand the pressure from hydro-jetting.
Snaking
Unlike hydro-jetting, snaking is a technique preferred for minor clogs that are not set deep in the drainage system. It is often the go-to technique for the homeowner before they contact a plumber or a plumbing company.
Snaking is a plumbing technique that uses an auger to remove clogs from pipeline and sewer lines. An auger is a steel cable whose one end has a cork-screw-like coil. The cork-screw end pierces through the clog, creating a clear path for the effluent. Conventionally, snaking is an effective technique for removing clogs. Additionally, snaking does not cause damage to fragile pipes as it is a gentle method. However, snaking clears a path with the same diameter as the auger. Snaking is only a temporary fix, as the clog is still attached to the piping system. In the long run, the clog may re-establish itself as the effluent flows.
Hydro-jetting Vs. Snaking, which is better?
Both hydro-jetting and snaking are known methods that improve drainage and clears clogs found in pipes and sewer lines. Hydro-jetting drain cleaning is preferred as it completely clears the clog to the initial state of the pipe at the time of installation and reduces natural build-ups on the interior surface of pipers and sewers.
On the other hand, snaking is easy to use and relatively cost-effective as the augers are cheap and readily available at home stores. Mr. Rooter Plumbing recommends snaking as a temporary fix as you schedule hydro-jetting for a more permanent solution.
