We are always ready to help our friends and neighbors in the community.
Inspect for Leaks
Leaks are among the most common issues for plumbing systems. A lot of the time, a leak is easy to spot. Take a stroll around your building and rooms to inspect for leaks. Focus on connection points of your appliances, underneath sinks, and surfaces around plumbing fixtures. Check walls for water stains, condensation, and mold or mildew growth.
Repair any leaks you find unless you want to return from your vacation to find the leak has turned into a burst pipe. Even if the leak does not spiral into a burst pipe, the wasted water can cause water damage and spike your water bills. Mr. Rooter Plumbing is proud to offer emergency leak repairs.
Check Your Water Heater for Issues
You are not going to need the water heater while you are gone, so see if your water heater has a vacation setting. This setting generally saves on energy bills while keeping the water heater operating.
While youre near the water heater, check water connections for rust, corrosion, and leaks. If you see puddles on the floor, then take a careful look to see if it calls for a repair.
Rinse Your Drains and Garbage Disposals
Rinse your drains with hot water or, better yet, flush them with vinegar and baking soda. Organic debris in the drains will decay and attract flies, roaches, and other pests. Clean your garbage disposal and clean any drain filters of any mess. This way you wont return from vacation to a smelly and stuffy home.
Unplug Your Appliances
You are not going to be using the dishwasher or washing machines when you are on vacation. Unplug them to isolate them from the system. This can protect the appliances from sudden power surges too.
Turn Off the Main Water Valve
You have already unplugged your appliances, set your water heater to the vacation setting, and repaired leaks, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. Further reduce the risk of leaks or burst pipes by turning off the main water valve as well as the water valves to individual appliances such as toilets, sinks, water heater, and so on.
