Water Heater Not Heating Water Enough?

Is the family tired of taking lukewarm showers in the morning? Do you frequently have to choose between a hot bath or running the dishwasher? If youre fed up with an underperforming water heater, theres no reason to despair. There is a solution available. At Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Pittsburgh, we enjoy providing quality services for residents and businesses in Pittsburgh, Aliquippa, Bethel Park, Cranberry, Greensburg, Irwin, McKeesport, New Kensington, Dormont, Penn Hills, Canonsburg, Ross Township, Washington, Uniontown, Beaver Falls, Beaver, North Hills and South Hills, Pennsylvania. Here are a few tips for gaining control over your hot water heater system.

Is Your Tank the Right Size?

Did you move into a home whose previous household size was much smaller than yours? Did you install your water heater tank years ago, but your family has since doubled? If your water heater is capable of warming the water to your desired temperature, but it always seems to be running out quickly, then the problem may be the size of your tank. Consider installing a larger hot water heater tank, or by switching to on demand water heaters in areas of frequent use.

Inspect Your Dip Tube

Dip tubes force cold water into the bottom of your tank so that the water is evenly heated. If your dip tube isnt working, then you may not be getting an adequate distribution of warm water. A repair or part replacement should remedy this situation, so you can get back to having hot baths and steamy showers.

Check the Thermostat

Your thermostat could be turned to a low temperature. Some people prefer to leave their thermostat low to save on energy costs. Perhaps it was programmed by a previous owner of the property, or by another family member. Check the thermostat to see which temperature it is, but be sure not to set it higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Doing so could result in second or third degree burns. This is particularly important if you have children or an elderly person living in your household.

The Unit is Old and in Need of Repair or Replacement

Most hot water heater units last about ten years. The older your unit, the more likely it is to be falling into disrepair. You may want to consider hiring a certified plumber for a professional inspection to determine if you need any repairs. In many cases, the cost of a new system installation is equal to or less than the price of repairing important components. A trusted plumber will help you find a solution that best fits your familys unique needs, lifestyle and budget.
