What to Do About Low Water Pressure in Your House

Low water pressure is one of the common plumbing problems that homeowners may experience at some point. Nothing can be frustrating like opening a hot water tap or a shower, only to get a trickle.

Low water pressure in your house is not only an inconvenience, but it also points to a possible plumbing issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

At Mr. Rooter Plumbing, we are committed to helping residential and commercial customers with all of their plumbing needs including low water pressure, leak detection and more.

In this article, we will look at the causes of low water pressure in a house and what you can do to fix the problem.

Check The Water Meter Valve

Low water pressure in your house may stem from issues to do with the main water valve. If the water meter valve isnt open all the way, you may notice a difference in water pressure.

If youre experiencing low water pressure after youve had work done on your house, the culprit could be a partially closed water meter valve.

The solution to a partially closed water meter valve is as simple as finding where the valve is located and opening it all the way.

Check The Pressure Regulator

One of the causes of low water pressure in a house is a failing pressure regulator. Like other plumbing fixtures, the pressure regulator can get damaged due to various reasons and cause a sudden decrease in water pressure.

When the pressure regulator fails, youll notice the effect on all of the fixtures in your home. If you think a faulty water pressure could be the cause of your low water pressure, call a nearby plumber to inspect the device and provide you with a solution.

NOTE: Not all homes have a pressure regulator. If you dont have one, then this solution is not for you.

Fix Leaking Water Pipes

Leaking pipes may siphon off water before it reaches your faucet spout and other fixtures, leaving you with just a trickle. If you suspect that the cause of low water pressure in your house could be a leaking pipe, be sure to call an experienced plumber to perform reliable leak detection and fix any leaking pipes.

A simple way to tell if you have a water leak in your home is to shut off all the water in your house and see if the water meter is still moving.

Fix Clogged Water Lines

Clogged pipes can also impact water pressure. Your pipes can become clogged by intruding tree roots, mineral deposit buildup from hard water, and pipe damage. Clogs can restrict the diameter of piping over time, leading to low water pressure. Youll know your water lines are clogged if you notice loud gurgling sounds coming out of the pipes.

The solution to clogged pipes is to call an experienced plumber to inspect your pipes and provide you with a solution.

Sometimes, low water pressure may be caused by issues to do with the water supplier. You may need to contact your water supplier first to find out if theyre experiencing any issues.

If you need help with fixing low water pressure in your house, call Mr. Rooter Plumbing to help you out.
